The original Ashes urn is on display in Melbourne, visiting Australia for only the third time in 137 years.
The urn is on loan from Marylebone Cricket Club in London and is the centrepiece of the revamped Victorian State Library’s new free exhibition Velvet, Iron, Ashes.
The exhibition is the first to be held in the library’s new Victoria Gallery, part of its $88.1 million redevelopment.
An interactive exhibition, visitors can learn about the unexpected links between some of Victoria;s most influential people and events, including Ned Kelly, with his armour also on show.
The Ashes urn will be on display until February 23.
